Booklover Mailbox – Banana Yoshimoto, Mary Hamer and Patrick Holland
Here are the books that entered my home over the past fortnight:
One purchase and two from small publishers…

(Aussie readers – all books available from Booktopia)
I wanted to read something by Banana Yoshimoto for Tony’s January in Japan, and thought her debut international bestseller Kitchen would be a great place to start – still time to review it before the month ends!
Having thoroughly enjoyed Scream by Laurent Graff from small publisher Aurora Metro, I accepted another of their titles Kipling & Trix by Mary Hamer for review. This is a fictionalised account of the life of Rudyard Kipling and his lesser known sister Alice ‘Trix’ Kipling.
The Darkest Little Room by Patrick Holland is from small Australian publisher Transit Lounge. This is described as an ‘atmospheric literary thriller’ set in Indochina and will count towards my participation in the Aussie Author Challenge 2013. This will be my first title from Patrick Holland but already have high expectations – one of his previous titles The Mary Smokes Boys was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award.
