Book Beginning – SWIMMING HOME by Deborah Levy

I recently began listening to the audio version of Swimming Home by Deborah Levy, narrated by Juliet Aubrey.

Swimming Home by Deborah LevySwimming Home was short-listed for the Man Booker Prize 2012.

The Book Beginning is:

As he arrives with his family at the villa in the hills above Nice, Joe sees a body in the swimming pool. But the girl is very much alive. She is Kitty Finch: a self-proclaimed botanist with green-painted fingernails, walking naked out of the water and into the heart of their holiday.

As you can sense from the opening lines, this novella exudes an uncommon and unsettling intensity.
