Australian Book Industry Awards – the Winners

On Tuesday we took a look at who was short-listed for the 2013 Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIAs).

The winners were announced last night at a gala dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney as part of the Sydney Writers’ Festival.  The 2013 ABIAs celebrate the very best of Australian writing, publishing and bookselling.

The big winner on the night was M. L. Stedman for her multi award-winning novel The Light Between Oceans (Random House). It picked up the major award for the evening, The Book of the Year sponsored by Booktopia along with the Literary Fiction Book of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year

The Secret Keeper by Kate MortonThe General Fiction Book of the Year was won by Kate Morton for her international bestseller, The Secret Keeper (Allen & Unwin).

Other award winners include Publisher of the Year Allen & Unwin, and Small Publisher of the Year The Text Publishing Company.

Some of the winners of the 2013 Annual Book Design Awards were:

Lisa White won Best Designed Fiction Book with The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton (Allen & Unwin).

There was a tie for the winner of the Best Designed Literary Fiction Book, between W H Chong with The Voyage by Murray Bail (Text Publishing) and Alison Colpoys & Miriam Rosenbloom with Sufficient Grace by Amy Espeseth (Scribe Publications).

W H Chong went on to win the Best Designed Cover of the Year Award with The Voyage and was the 2013 Design Hall of Fame Winner.
