BOOK REVIEW

Three Lives Down is the third title in Rachel Amphlett’s Dan Taylor thriller series.

Did my not having read the earlier novels affect my enjoyment of this novel? Not one bit. Although based on the strength of this outing, I would undoubtedly have enjoyed the earlier titles also.

There is an appealing clarity and efficiency to Amphlett’s writing style. Text devoted purely to characterisation is minimal, but her characters are nonetheless well developed and appealing – their morals and principles clearly demonstrated through their actions.

Dan Taylor is everything you could want from a series lead – a man of action, intelligence, honour and loyalty. But I am pleased to say it’s not all about the men in Three Lives Down – Amphlett’s female characters are forces to be reckoned with also.

That the geopolitical issues and political subterfuge involved are so relevant and credible right now, only heightened the suspense – I was hooked.

The perfect combination of the intelligence and intrigue of Spooks with Matthew Reilly-esque high-octane action, I was thoroughly entertained by Rachel Amphlett’s Three Lives Down.
