The Wedding Forecast Publisher Synopsis

Anna was never going to have an easy time at her best friend’s wedding. She’s the bridesmaid; her ex, Joel, is a groomsman. But she’s determined to get through the festivities with a smile on her face. Despite the fact that Joel is bringing his new partner, Bianca. Despite the fact she’s stuck sharing a house with the newly in-love couple. And despite the fact Anna has just turned thirty and her life is not exactly where she thought it would be by now. Anna has all her feelings completely under control—right up until the moment Joel drops a bombshell that rocks her to her core.

She needs a distraction, and Patrick, the wedding photographer, just might be the solution. Everyone has decided he is perfect for her. He is perfect for her. But the arrival of Mac, a not-quite-famous actor who has flown in from New York, complicates everything.

Much-loved YA author Nina Kenwood hits the spot with her first novel for adults. Laugh-out-loud funny with chemistry that jumps off the page, The Wedding Forecast will be the feel-good romcom of the summer.

My Review

Having heard nothing but great things about Nina Kenwood’s young adult romantic comedy novels, It Sounded Better In My Head and Unnecessary Drama, I was excited to read The Wedding Forecast, her first adult romance.

One of the many things I loved about this novel is that from the opening scene, we get the strong sense that our stressed and barely keeping it together protagonist Anna, is supported by a diverse and warmhearted ensemble cast. Anna is old enough and wise enough to appreciate that she is lucky to have family (blood and found) that care about her so much that their involvement in her life can be infuriating. This felt deeply authentic and also signalled much hilarity ahead.

In The Wedding Forecast Nina Kenwood combines wonderful timing and visual comedy with taut and intelligent ensemble banter to produce innumerable scenes that made me grin; several that made me chuckle out loud. Family members asked, “What are you reading? It looks good!”, it being evident to them how much I was enjoying it. And yes, they picked this novel up the moment I finished.

Books and friendship

This novel is perfectly positioned for book lovers, with a key character being a newly published author and another owning a bookshop. It is also a love letter to friendship.

In the context of the romcom genre, another aspect of The Wedding Forecast‘s execution really stood out for me. We are treated to sizzle surprisingly early in the plot, yet Kenwood still manages to deliver a noteworthy slow burn. How does that happen? Well, you’ll just have to read it to find out exactly how. But, it relates to her acknowledging the simple fact that romance in the real-world rarely plays out in a single act or in an obligation- and attachment-free vacuum. In turn, the characterisation, suspense and ultimately this novel’s conclusion, are far more meaningful.

I have long considered Toni Jordan the undisputed queen of intelligent adult romantic dramedy here in Australia, but with The Wedding Forecast Nina Kenwood has announced herself as a future contender. A hilarious and heartwarming romance read you will fly through but not want to end.

My Rating

Story 4.5 / 5 ; The Writing 4.5 / 5
