New comments system – what do you think?

Just a quick note to let my loyal readers know I have installed a new comments system.

This new system allows threaded comments, so now you can reply to a specific comment or quote a part of a comment made by someone else in your comment and continue the discussion about that point. There is also a button that provides the URL to a specific comment in case you want to link to that from another web location, e.g. you are writing a post on your own website and want to refer (link) to a comment someone else made on my site.

In addition to the added functionality (my old comments section was a little behind the times), I like the cleaner look and feel of this system.

Why haven’t I gone for the more popular third party comments systems at this stage?

I have been doing a fair bit of work on speeding up my website recently and am conscious that every bell and whistle you add via plugins increases page load time.

I would love to hear your feedback, and most importantly if you are having any trouble commenting please do let me know via email at [email protected]

  1. Jo, do you know if there is a way to subscribe to the comments so that you can get any follow up comments in your email? There doesn’t appear to be, and it doesn’t happen automatically.

    1. Thank you so much for pointing that out to me Marg.

This commenting system does not do that automatically so I have just installed a ‘Subscribe to Comments’ plugin. This means when you initially comment you can now check the box below the comments field and then you will receive emails when anyone else replies to your comment or simply comments on that same post. Once subscribed to comments, if you want to stop receiving follow up comments you can choose to block them using the ‘Manage your subscriptions’ link in the emails you have received.
